Terms of Use

These conditions govern access to and use of the website. Opening a page, reading its material, or using a search function means the visitor accepts them. Anyone who does not agree should stop using the service.

NO FCRA USE. This is a private website with no government affiliation. It is not a private investigation firm or consumer reporting agency. Neither the website nor its advertising partners offers a service for credit, employment, housing, insurance, or another purpose regulated by the Fair Credit Reporting Act (FCRA). Its role is limited to organizing record-access information for Aiken County and South Carolina.

1. What This Website Is

This private reference website operates independently from every government office. It does not store official criminal records, submit filings, retrieve documents, or perform an official background check.

Its content identifies the Aiken County sheriff, the proper courts, the South Carolina Law Enforcement Division (SLED), and the South Carolina Public Sex Offender Registry (SORT). Some pages also connect visitors to independently operated search tools.

2. Rules for Using This Site

Use of the website is conditioned on the following restrictions. A visitor must not:

  • Use bots, scrapers, or other automated means against the pages
  • Violate a federal, state, or local law
  • Interfere with the service or another visitor's access
  • Attempt unauthorized access to any system or account
  • Use information to harass, threaten, or stalk a person
  • Rely on the content for a credit, employment, housing, or insurance decision

3. No Harassment, Stalking, or Discrimination

No one may use information found here or through a linked service to stalk, intimidate, threaten, harass, or discriminate. Misuse may also violate criminal law. South Carolina imposes specific limits on SORT information, including penalties when registry data is used to facilitate another crime. Registry access supports public safety and does not authorize vigilantism or discriminatory treatment.

4. We Are Not a Consumer Reporting Agency

We are not a consumer reporting agency under the FCRA and do not create a credit report, consumer report, or background-screening product. The same is true of the services advertised here for purposes of these terms. Information from the website or a linked tool must not be used to:

  • Set an insurance rate or assess creditworthiness
  • Make an employment decision
  • Evaluate a rental or housing application
  • Decide eligibility for a license, permit, or public program
  • Carry out any other activity regulated by the FCRA

A legally permissible official check should be obtained through SLED or a consumer reporting agency that complies with the FCRA.

5. No Legal Advice

The material is general information, not legal advice. Only a licensed South Carolina attorney can advise how an Aiken County charge, warrant, disposition, conviction, or expungement provision applies to a particular set of facts.

6. No Warranties

All content and functions are supplied "as is." There is no warranty that:

  • A partner's search result is complete or correct
  • The website will remain continuously available
  • Every page is free from errors or security defects
  • The published information is always accurate, complete, and current

Charges, dispositions, seals, and expungements change official records. Published material can therefore lag or contain a gap. Nothing here is an official statement from the sheriff, a court, SLED, or another government body.

7. Third-Party Services and Links

Links can lead to government offices, court portals, legal resources, state agencies, and outside search providers. We do not control those destinations and accept no responsibility for their availability, content, prices, or data practices. Their own terms govern use.

8. Intellectual Property

Text, code, logos, and graphics belong to Aiken County Criminal History or the relevant content partner. They may not be copied, changed, distributed, or used to create derivative work without prior written permission.

9. Limits on Our Liability

To the maximum extent allowed by law, we disclaim liability for damages arising from use of the website, its information, or a linked service.

10. Indemnification

A visitor agrees to indemnify and hold us harmless from claims, demands, or proceedings caused by that visitor's use of the service or breach of these terms, including related legal costs.

11. Governing Law

South Carolina law governs these terms. The South Carolina Freedom of Information Act applies to government records, while South Carolina Code § 23-3-90 governs restricted dissemination of fingerprint-supported history; neither converts this private website into an official record source. Any action connected with the website must be brought in a court located in South Carolina.

12. Changes to These Terms

We may revise these conditions at any time. A revision becomes effective when the updated text is posted here.

13. Cutting Off Access

Access may be limited or terminated at any time, without advance notice and for any reason.

14. Severability

If one provision is held invalid or unenforceable, every other provision remains in force. The affected language will be narrowed only as much as needed to make it enforceable.

15. Questions

Questions about these conditions may be submitted through the Contact page.
